Who Should Attend?
This course is tailored for operatives involved in excavation work on roads, construction sites, parks, and industrial estates. Suitable for supervisors, operatives, and safety personnel who need to safely locate underground services. Participants must bring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). On-site training requires a suitable room and outdoor area for practical exercises.
Prerequisites
Delegates must be 16 years or older and medically fit to meet current industry standards.
Course Aim
The Cat & Genny training teaches participants how to safely operate cable avoidance tools and signal generators to identify both common and uncommon underground services. Training aligns with HSG 47 guidelines to ensure safe excavation practices.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand relevant regulations and Codes of Practice
- Operate cable avoidance tools (CAT) and signal generators (GENNY) correctly
- Identify common underground services and interpret service drawings
- Implement permit systems for safe digging
- Conduct surveys and produce sketches of located services
- Apply safe digging practices and avoid underground hazards

Accreditation
