The CITB Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) Course provides essential knowledge for those supervising temporary works on construction sites. This one-day Temporary Works Supervisor Training Course gives delegates a thorough understanding of their responsibilities under BS5975:2008+A1:2011, risk management principles, and best practices in line with CITB and HSE standards.

Courses are available in Portadown, Dublin, and on-site.

Pre-Requisites

Candidates should have:

  • Experience managing or supervising temporary works
  • A good understanding of spoken and written English

Who Should Attend

This Temporary Works Supervisor Course is ideal for:

The course follows the guidance of BS5975:2008 + A1:2011 and is supported by the Temporary Works Forum (TWf), CECA, UKCG, HSE, and FMB.

Course Aim

The Temporary Works Supervisor Training Course aims to give delegates a strong understanding of:

  • The role and responsibilities of a TWS
  • Effective risk management in temporary works
  • The importance of communication, co-operation, co-ordination, and competency (“The 4Cs”)

This training ensures that all TWS personnel can identify potential issues and work safely and efficiently as part of the wider temporary works process.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the risk management of temporary works
  • Apply the 4Cs – communication, co-ordination, co-operation and competency
  • Recognise the legal duties and responsibilities of a Temporary Works Supervisor
  • Identify how the TWS fits within the temporary works management structure
  • Understand the relevant aspects of BS5975:2008 + A1:2011
  • Support the Temporary Works Co-ordinator in ensuring compliance and safety

Emphasis is placed throughout the course on both safety and business risk management.

Assessment Method

  • One full day (7.5 hours) of training
  • Theory-based multiple-choice test
  • Continuous participation and engagement are required throughout the course

Certification

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive a CITB Site Safety Plus Temporary Works Supervisor Certificate, valid for 5 years. To remain certified, delegates must complete a refresher course before the expiry date.
