• Anyone required to set up, maintain, and remove traffic management systems on roads with speed limits up to 100kph

Course Aim

The aim of this course is to equip candidates with the knowledge and practical skills to:

• Safely set up and remove traffic management operations on single carriageway public roads
• Apply best practice in traffic control for rural and urban worksites
• Comply with CSCS and QQI standards for Signing, Lighting & Guarding

Pre-Requisites

Candidates must have:

• Valid SOLAS Safepass card
• Photographic ID (passport or driver’s licence)
• PPS Number
• Minimum 18 years old
• 1 passport photo
• 9 months experience operating as an SLG candidate in construction
• B1 level English (no interpreters allowed)
• Good colour vision, hearing, full use of trunk & neck
• Physical ability to lift and carry 6kg cones and traffic signs on frames

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Understand Traffic Management principles and roadworks classifications
• Identify and correctly use traffic management devices
• Plan and implement traffic management layouts
• Apply safe procedures for semi-static roadworks and planned works
• Conduct traffic management checks and maintain site records
• Implement safe systems for installation and removal of traffic management infrastructure
• Demonstrate competence in both classroom theory and site practical exercises

Assessment Method

Candidates are assessed via:

• Two classroom theory tests
• Practical assessment on-site demonstrating safe SLG operations

Certification

Upon successful completion, delegates will receive:

• CSCS ID Card
• QQI Certification valid for 5 years

This ensures compliance with Irish roadworks and traffic management regulations and allows operatives and supervisors to legally operate on public roads.
