The Emergency Response Team (ERT) Fire Control, Live Burns and Response Training course is designed for delegates who have completed the 3-day Basic ERT entry course and wish to gain practical and theoretical knowledge in live burns, fire control, and emergency response procedures. Delivered at ITS Portadown, this one-day training is ideal for workplace emergency response teams, supervisors, and personnel responsible for fire and rescue operations.

Prerequisites

Delegates must:

  • Be 18 years or older and medically fit
  • Have completed Emergency Response Team (ERT) Basic Training
  • Possess a reasonable knowledge of ERT principles

Course Aim

The aim of this course is to provide delegates with a practical and theoretical understanding of live fire control, emergency response, and casualty recovery. Delegates will gain confidence in internal firefighting techniques, breathing apparatus monitoring, and fire incident management.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand incident control and emergency response roles
  • Recognise fire development phenomena (flashover, backdraft)
  • Navigate safely in smoke-filled environments
  • Set up and operate fire hoses and drills safely
  • Apply water-based firefighting techniques
  • Recover casualties safely during an emergency
  • Perform basic entry control procedures
  • Monitor breathing apparatus (BA) use
  • Conduct internal firefighting operations

PPE Requirements

Delegates must bring:

  • Safety boots, helmet, gloves, hi-vis coat/vest
  • Fire protective clothing (fire suit, gloves, boots, helmet)
  • Personal facemasks and BA equipment are preferred but can be supplied
