The IPAF Harness Inspector Course (HI) is designed for operators, supervisors, and managers responsible for the selection, inspection, and maintenance of harnesses and lanyards used with MEWPs (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms).
This IPAF Harness Inspection Training provides the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to carry out pre-use checks, identify faults, and ensure compliance with current health and safety legislation.
Course Aim
The aim of the IPAF Harness Inspector Course is to train candidates in both the theoretical and practical aspects of fall arrest and restraint systems, including the inspection and adjustment of harnesses and lanyards.
Delegates will learn how to inspect, record, and maintain harness equipment in accordance with IPAF standards and UK regulations.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the IPAF Harness Inspection Course, delegates will have an understanding of:
- Health and safety legislation and relevant regulations
- Identification and selection of fall arrest and restraint equipment
- Traceability and CE marking requirements
- Correct fitting and adjustment of harnesses
- Shock absorbing lanyards and fall arrest blocks
- Anchor points and connectors
- Inspection procedures, including recording and documentation
- Care, storage, and maintenance of harness equipment
- Rescue provision and emergency planning
- Confidently inspecting and selecting equipment that is safe and fit for purpose
Assessment Method
The IPAF HI Course includes a mix of classroom-based tutorials, demonstrations, and both practical and written assessments.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to inspect harnesses and lanyards to IPAF and industry standards.
Certification
Successful candidates will receive an IPAF digital Powered Access Licence (PAL) via the IPAF ePAL app.
Physical PAL cards are available upon request (additional cost).
The IPAF Harness Inspector certification is valid for 5 years and recognised internationally.
