The IPAF Harness Use (HU) & Awareness (HA) Course is designed for operators, supervisors, and managers responsible for selecting, managing, and planning the correct use of harnesses in MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform) operations.
This course is ideal for anyone seeking practical knowledge and skills to safely oversee harness use and supervision on site.
Course Aim
The aim of the IPAF Harness Use & Awareness Course is to equip candidates with the theoretical and practical knowledge required to:
- Select and use harnesses correctly for safe MEWP operation.
- Understand relevant health and safety legislation.
- Implement and supervise safe working systems involving harnesses and lanyards.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this IPAF Harness Training, delegates will be able to:
- Select appropriate harnesses and lanyards for use in MEWPs.
- Manage and supervise the correct use of harnesses and lanyards on site.
- Develop safe systems of work for harness and lanyard use.
- Understand health and safety at work legislation and regulations.
- Identify all types of fall arrest and restraint equipment.
- Ensure traceability, CE markings, and correct fitting of harnesses.
- Recognise shock-absorbing lanyards, fall arrest blocks, anchor points, and connectors.
- Be confident in selecting correct work equipment and putting on a harness correctly.
Assessment Method
The course includes:
- Classroom-based tutorials
- Demonstrations and practical exercises
- Written and practical assessments
Certification
Successful delegates will receive a digital Powered Access Licence (PAL) via the IPAF ePAL app.
Physical PAL cards are available upon request at an additional cost.
The IPAF HU & HA certificate is valid for 5 years and demonstrates competence in safe harness selection, use, and supervision on MEWPs.
