Course Overview
Our IPAF operator training follows the globally recognised IPAF programme, developed by industry experts and certified by TUV to meet ISO 18878:2004. Delegates learn how to safely prepare, inspect and operate MEWPs across real-world work environments including construction, facilities management, utilities, warehousing and more.
Training is available in the following IPAF categories:

Course Aim
The aim of this IPAF-approved training is to equip MEWP operators with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to:
- Operate MEWPs safely
- Prevent accidents and manage risk
- Comply with legislative and site requirements
- Understand safe operating procedures and emergency actions
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion, delegates will be able to:
- Operate the MEWP confidently, manoeuvring and positioning the machine to perform tasks correctly and safely.
- Carry out pre-use inspections and daily maintenance routines before operating any MEWP.
- Recognise the correct and safe method of operating the MEWP, including emergency procedures, machine limitations and safe shutdown.
- Learn the correct selection and use of fall prevention systems, including:
- Harness standards
- Anchorage points
- Lanyards
- Fall arrest equipment
- Inspection requirements
- Understand relevant legislation, manufacturer guidance and industry best practices.
Assessment Method
Training includes:
- Classroom-based learning
- Tutor demonstrations
- Practical hands-on assessment
- Written theory test
Certification
Successful candidates will receive:
- A digital Powered Access Licence (PAL) via the IPAF ePAL app
- Option to request a physical PAL card (additional cost)
- Certification valid for 5 years
Your PAL card will include the categories you have successfully completed (1b, 3a and/or 3b).
