The Lantra 12D TTMBC (Temporary Traffic Management Basic Course) is designed for individuals starting work in the temporary traffic management industry or those without any current NHSS 12A/B/C/D registration cards.

This course is the essential pre-requisite for progressing to the NHSS 12D M1 course and forms the foundation of a career in temporary traffic management. Delivered in Portadown, Northern Ireland, the course combines theory and assessment to ensure delegates understand all basic principles of traffic management and safety.

Course Aim

To provide delegates with the knowledge and understanding required to safely work on traffic management sites and start their journey to becoming a competent member of a TTM team.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand codes of practice and associated documentation for traffic management
  • Recognise the National Highway Sector Schemes (NHSS) and their application
  • Comprehend QA processes and NHSS documents
  • Identify different types of roads and applicable NHSS coverage
  • Recognise classifications of road users: pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders, etc.
  • Understand TTM terminology and industry standards
  • Learn the process to become a qualified TTM Operative and progress to Supervisor level
  • Be aware of Health & Safety requirements, including risk assessments and method statements
  • Identify TTM equipment and understand its basic principles of use
  • Understand safety zones and general PPE requirements
  • Know the safe way to enter and exit a site
  • Recognise the variety of TTM vehicles and their uses
  • Understand site environment, maintenance, and management
  • Know how to respond to accidents and emergencies within the works area

Assessment Method

  • Concludes with a multiple-choice question paper

Certification

  • Successful delegates will receive NHSS12 TTMBC certification
  • Certificate valid for 6 months
