Training is available at our Portadown HQ or on-site anywhere across Northern Ireland, depending on unit requirements and client facilities.

This course is ideal for:

All delegates must bring appropriate PPE, and some practical units may be delivered at the client’s premises.
Prerequisites
- Delegates must be 16 years or older
- Must be medically fit in accordance with current industry guidelines
Course Aim
The aim of this course is to develop the essential skills and understanding required to safely execute and supervise street works in line with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA). The programme focuses on ensuring legal compliance, reducing risk, and promoting best practice throughout all phases of street works operations.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will:
- Understand the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Roads (SROH)
- Understand HSE Guidance Document HSG47 for locating and avoiding underground services
- Understand the Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice (Red Book) and the traffic management requirements for road works
- Achieve accreditation for the relevant NRSWA units required to operate or supervise safely under the street works scheme
Assessment Method
Each unit includes structured training followed by assessment:
Operatives
- Practical task assessments
- Knowledge-based questions
- Observation carrying out live or simulated tasks
Supervisors
- Knowledge questions for each unit
- Observation of operatives performing tasks to assess supervisory capability
Assessments ensure candidates meet the required national standard of competence.
Accreditation
Successful delegates will receive:
CABWI Certificate
- Certificates for Street Works and associated schemes do not expire, but
- NRSWA qualifications must be renewed every 5 years
SWQR Card (Street Works Qualification Register)
- Required to legally perform or supervise street works
- Valid for 5 years and renewable through reassessment
