Qualification Overview

This qualification is achieved entirely in the workplace through structured assessment. A qualified assessor will observe your work, collect evidence, and guide you through each unit to ensure you meet the National Occupational Standards for construction site supervision roles.

You will demonstrate your ability to effectively supervise site activities, maintain safety, control resources, and deliver work to agreed standards.

Mandatory Units

All learners must complete the following mandatory units:

  • Allocating and Monitoring the Use of Plant, Equipment or Machinery in the Workplace
  • Assessing and Agreeing Work Methods in the Workplace
  • Contributing to the Control of Work Quantities and Costs in the Workplace
  • Controlling Work Against Agreed Quality Standards in the Workplace
  • Controlling Work Progress Against Agreed Programmes in the Workplace
  • Co-ordinating Preparation for Site Operations in the Workplace
  • Coordinating Work Control in the Workplace

Optional Units

Learners must select additional optional units to complete the qualification. Options include:

 

  • Allocating Work and Monitoring People’s Performance in the Workplace
  • Contributing to the Identification of a Work Team in the Workplace
  • Enabling Learning Opportunities in the Workplace
  • Managing Your Personal Development in the Workplace

Assessment takes place onsite through a series of methods, including:

  • Direct observation in your working environment
  • Professional discussions
  • Witness testimonies
  • Work product evidence (RAMS, programmes, photos, records, reports)
  • Knowledge questions

There is no exam—your competence is demonstrated in real working conditions.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.
Learners must:

  • Be aged 18 or over

  • Be currently working in a construction supervisory role

  • Have access to site activities that demonstrate evidence for assessment

Certification

Upon successful completion, you will receive:

NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Construction Site Supervision (Construction)

This qualification is nationally recognised and accepted for applying for the CSCS Gold Supervisor Card.
