Course Aim

The aim of the S5 PIA Pole Survey course is to provide engineers and contractors with the knowledge, skills, and certification required to complete accurate, safe and compliant Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) Pole Surveys on the Openreach network.

Course Objectives

This accreditation consists of three structured modules:

Module 1 - Overhead Infrastructure Knowledge

Covers the fundamental components of the Openreach overhead network, including:

• Network layout and structure
• Operational processes
• Safety considerations
• Troubleshooting and maintenance principles

This module helps candidates build a strong understanding of overhead systems before undertaking survey work.

Module 2 - Practical PIA Pole Survey Training

Hands-on skills development focused on conducting safe, compliant pole surveys. Candidates learn:

• Survey procedures and methodology
• Safety checks and hazard awareness
• Identifying defects and recording survey data
• Correct use of tools and equipment
• Best practice for PIA survey operations
