The S8 PIA Overhead Cable Installation – Re-accreditation course is designed for experienced Communication Providers (CP) engineers and contractors working on the Openreach overhead network, including Northern Ireland. This assessment-only module ensures operatives remain compliant, competent, and confident when deploying overhead drop cable safely and to Openreach quality standards.

Who Should Attend?

This re-accreditation is for:

  • Communication Providers (CP) engineers
  • Telecoms contractors
  • Operatives working on the Openreach overhead infrastructure
  • Individuals whose current S8 accreditation is due for renewal

This course is suitable only for experienced engineers, as it is assessment-based with no training element.

Course Aim

The aim of the S8 re-accreditation is to:

  • Renew competency in safe overhead cable deployment
  • Ensure engineers meet Openreach PIA engineering standards
  • Validate continued compliance with Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) quality requirements
  • Confirm safe working practices in overhead environments

This ensures CP engineers can continue to work safely and effectively on the Openreach network.

re-Requisites

To be eligible for this re-accreditation, delegates must have:

Mandatory Certificates

  • SA001 – Overhead Safety (must have at least 6 months validity remaining)
  • Valid S8 accreditation with:
    • At least 3 months left before expiry
    • Accreditation must not be expired

Important Notes

  • Re-accreditation is testing only – no refresher training is included
  • If a delegate fails the assessment, they must complete the full S8 course again

 

Assessment Method

This accreditation renewal consists of:

  • Knowledge questionnaire
  • Practical skills assessment (demonstrating safe and compliant overhead cable installation techniques)

Delegates must demonstrate full competency to pass.

Certification

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive:

  • Updated S8 PIA Overhead Cable Installation Certification
  • Valid for 3 years
  • Recognised for work on the Openreach overhead network across NI
