The SA100 Smart Awards Hand Rodding qualification provides essential skills for preparing underground duct routes using hand rodding techniques. This course covers how to safely install cable or draw rope within underground networks while identifying hazards, mitigating risks, and working around existing infrastructure.

This accreditation is aimed at individuals working within telecommunications, fibre build, civils, and other utility environments where safe underground duct access and preparation are essential.

Who Should Attend?

This course is ideal for:

  • Fibre build operatives
  • Civils teams

SA100 aligns with job roles recognised by the Network Operative Passport Scheme (NOPS), ensuring operatives meet nationally recognised competency standards.

Prerequisites

Learners must have completed:

  • SA002 – Underground Safety

  • Prove and clear underground duct routes
  • Install a draw rope or cable through a verified duct
  • Maintain control and safety around the work area
  • Communicate duct conditions clearly and accurately

These practical skills prepare operatives for real-world installation and pre-enablement tasks.

Assessment Method
