Course Aim
The aim of this course is to train industrial workers in the safe, efficient and compliant operation of wood chippers. Delegates will learn essential safety practices, legal responsibilities, hazard awareness and correct operational procedures.
Training covers both:
- Mobile wood chippers
- Trailer-mounted and tractor-mounted wood chippers
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the Safe Use of Wood Chippers course, delegates will be able to:
- Understand legal requirements relating to operating portable wood chippers
- Follow and comply with manufacturer’s instructions and safety guidance
- Identify common hazards including:
- Noise and vibration
- Entanglement
- Manual handling risks
- Ejection of material
- Recognise key controls, functions and pre-use checks
- Prepare a wood chipper for operation, including fuelling procedures
- Carry out basic routine maintenance safely
- Identify suitable and safe siting locations for operation
- Transport and store the wood chipper safely
- Conduct proper shut-down checks
- Identify correct PPE requirements

Accreditation
Successful candidates receive an ITS Accredited Wood Chipper Certificate, valid for 3 years.
