The Tetra Leaning & Roof Ladder Candidate Course (Level 3) is designed for operatives who work at height using leaning ladders and roof ladders and require effective fall prevention systems. This advanced course provides the underpinning knowledge and hands-on practical skills to safely access property elevations and pitched roofs while maintaining three points of contact at all times.

This course is suitable for:

  • Operatives working from leaning and roof ladders
  • Individuals already trained in ladder use and inspection
  • Personnel currently working without fall protection systems
  • Workers in telecommunications, utilities, construction, and maintenance roles

It is ideal for those required to work at height on pitched roofs using ladder-based access.

Pre-Requisites

All candidates must:

  • Have previous training and experience in ladder use and user inspection
  • Provide a Tetra Leaning & Roof Ladder Kit
  • Be medically fit to attend
  • Complete a medical statement sheet prior to training

Course Aim

The aim of this course is to equip learners with the knowledge and practical competence required to safely use fall protection equipment when working from leaning ladders and roof ladders.

Candidates will learn how to access elevations and pitched roofs safely, using approved personal fall protection systems, while maintaining safe working practices and compliance with legislation.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of UK legislation, including the Work at Height Regulations
  • Understand the difference between fall arrest and work restraint systems
  • Recognise the importance of correct anchorage selection and positioning
  • Fit, use, and conduct user inspections of fall protection equipment
  • Apply safe access procedures for portable leaning ladders and roof ladders
  • Secure ladders correctly before use
  • Complete practical ladder exercises at heights of up to approximately 6 metres (guidance height)
  • Perform ladder transfer techniques for accessing pitched roofs
  • Demonstrate self-rescue awareness
  • Confirm knowledge through a written assessment

 

Assessment Method

The course includes:

  • Practical assessment demonstrating safe ladder access, fall protection use, and roof transfer techniques
  • Written assessment to confirm understanding of course content

Both elements must be passed to achieve certification.

Certification

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive:

  • ITS Tetra Leaning & Roof Ladder Level 3 Certificate
  • Certification validity: 3 years

This certification confirms competence in working safely from leaning and roof ladders using fall protection systems.
