This one-day integrated training and assessment programme is designed for experienced tractor operators who want to update their knowledge, improve safe working practices and maintain certification.

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for:

• Experienced tractor drivers
• Operators who have previously completed a tractor driving course
• Anyone required to refresh their tractor operating competence

Delegates should already have practical tractor driving experience.

Course Aim

This refresher course ensures you continue to operate tractors and attachments safely, efficiently, and in line with current legislation.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, delegates will be able to:

• Carry out a site-specific risk assessment
• Mount and dismount the tractor safely
• Understand the purpose and meaning of tractor instrumentation
• Understand the function of all controls
• Recognise hazards associated with using tractor controls
• Explain the reasons for daily safety checks
• Start and stop the engine safely
• Drive the tractor competently in forward and reverse
• Leave the tractor in a safe condition
• Check lubrication, cooling systems and air intake
• Perform basic tractor lubrication
• Ensure the tractor is safe for road use
• Attach mounted implements and manoeuvre safely
• Attach trailed implements and manoeuvre safely
• Leave unattached implements in a safe state
• Correctly attach a PTO shaft between tractor and implement
• Fit PTO shaft guards correctly
• Assess minimum turning circle and PTO shaft angles
• Carry out basic operations using a tractor mounted front-end loader

Assessment Method

Learners will be assessed through:

• Classroom theory
• Practical driving exercises
• Instructor observation

Successful candidates will receive a LANTRA certificate of training.

Certification

Upon successful completion, learners will receive a LANTRA Certificate of Refresher Training, confirming continued competence in the safe use of woodchippers.
